[Part 1]
Psychologists know they have to be careful when exploring the human mind, because you never know what you'll find. A series of psychological experiments over the years have yielded terrifying conclusions on the issues.
Oh, we're not talking about an occasional psychopath. No, we're talking about you. The experiments speak for themselves:
# 5. The Experiment of Conformity of Asch (1953)
The Preparation: Solomon Asch wanted to implement a series of studies that document the power of conformity, in order to depress everyone who read the results.
Subjects were told that part of a vision test, along with a handful of people. The participants were then shown photographs and asked to answer questions individually very simple and obvious. The dirty was that everyone in the room that was not the subject was aware of the experiment, and were instructed to give answers obviously wrong. So, the guy would go against the crowd, even when the crowd was clearly and absurdly wrong?
The result: The questions were like the puzzle below:
All they had to do was say which line the right side of the line corresponded to the left. As you can see, was not exactly a request for designing the next space station.
Unfortunately, however, 32 percent of the subjects gave a wrong answer when they saw that the three others in the classroom gave the same answer wrong.
[Click here to watch a video of that experience ...]
What this says about you: Imagine how those 32 percent increase when the answers are less obvious. We all tend to laugh with the group, even when we could not understand the joke, or realize that our opinion is unpopular with our group.
After reading about this experiment many can say 'Well, it's a good thing, I am a rebellious nonconformist. " Of course, to almost everyone who fit into that description, the next step is finding out what the other non-conformist are doing ...
... And make sure they are in complete conformity with them.
